Toilets Have Feelings, Too

October 22, 2007 — Police charged a woman who shouted profanities at overflowing toilet, according to USA Today’s On Deadline online edition.

Dawn Herb faces up to three months in jail and a US$300 fine if she's convicted of using foul language inside her Scranton, PA residence.

Herb told the Times Tribune that the toilet was overflowing and leaking down into the kitchen and she was yelling for her daughter to get the mop," she said, according to The Times-Tribune of Scranton, PA, when a guy yelled ‘Shut the [expletive] up." She responded, yelling back, ‘Mind your own business.’"

Her next-door neighbor, an off-duty cop, called police. Herb was charged with disorderly conduct.

"It doesn’t make any sense," said the mother of four. "I was in my house. It’s not like I was outside or drunk. A cop can charge you with disorderly conduct for disrespecting them?"

Patrolman Gerald Tallo, who wrote the ticket, seemed to think so. Now Herb will have to see if the judge agrees.
